"Technology Hiring Trends"

IT Staffing SolutionsTechnology salaries in the U.S. grew by more than they have in a decade, according to the annual Dice salary survey. The average tech professional earned a 5 percent increase, from $81,327 to $85,619. Furthermore, 64% of hiring managers and recruiters surveyed reported that their companies would add new tech employees in the first half of 2013.

In an environment where demand for experienced tech talent vastly surpasses the supply, competition to obtain and retain skilled tech professionals has pushed salaries up.

According to Dice, the highest-priority tech hires of 2013 include Java/J2EE Developers, Mobile Developers, .NET Developers, Data Analysts/Analytics Professionals, and Software Developers. Data professionals are in exceptionally high demand; salaries for those regularly using Hadoop, NoSQL, and Mongo DB exceed $100,000. Comparatively, cloud and virtualization professionals' average salaries are just under $90,000 and average mobile salaries are approximately $80,000.

Scot Melland, Chairman, President, and CEO of Dice Holdings, stated:

"Employers are recognizing and adjusting to the reality of a tight market. The fact is you either pay to recruit or pay to retain and these days, at least for technology teams, companies are doing both....With a 3.8 percent tech unemployment rate, no one wants to lose talent."
